Reinventing Christianity for our day

Numerous people are rethinking Christianity in contra-distinction to evangelical church.  Because we live in a Postmodern culture the church must adopt new ways to reach them. They believe they have answers for our generation and they call it Emergent.

The Emergent church is carried by its mission for change- for Christians and the church. Contrary to this God does not change and neither has His instructions in the New Testament. But a new leadership that is focusing on our youth is intent on changing the church, updating it for our times.

Many of the youth are on an active search to experience their faith. While we cannot fault them for wanting this to be more real, they are listening to leaders who are apt to lead them astray by the simple fact that they are using other religious practices for the answers to their searching, not just the Scripture. This means they are not intent on following God’s instructions  for the church but are willing to find their solutions elsewhere.

At the heart of the Emergent Church movement is a spiritual protest, a searching for a different spirituality. They see the church in a crisis. This is not just about a change of style to be relevant to our modern generation. It is a matter of connection and affection for some, for others, they see the modern church lacking substance. They believe that different theological worldviews that were adopted by the church created denominations- each denomination having their own theological structure. They are questioning these structures. Many are unsatisfied and are looking for a new ways to do “it”. However they are exchanging “it” for an open-mindedness that I see as spiritually dangerous. Once I saw the practice of yoga and other religious spiritual practices involved, I realized there is something else operating this emergence. It was Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (who some seem to mimic in principle if not practice in this movement) that stated “In this present crisis, in which we can see and feel the confrontation between the traditional Christian forces and the modern forces of evolution, Is simply the permutations of a providential and Indispensable Inter-fertilization” (Christianity and Evolution, p. 176).

The leaders of the movement insist that in our fast-changing culture, something is happening. So much that is held as normative is being reanalyzed. While it is good to question certain teachings because it leads us deeper into the word, this does not seem to be the direction they are looking for their answers. The youth are often more than willing to reject the old doctrines and redefine what Christianity is. In this process of discovery, we see a deconstruction and what emerges is a reconstruction of their Christianity that would differ from the more established churches or denominations beliefs. Thus, they believe they are making their faith their own, personal and in some cases unique, even to what the Bible presents. Others have adopted a wider openness for other beliefs, that are originating in other religions and alternate spiritual beliefs and practices indicative of the new age movement (Leonard Sweet has this in his book Quantum Spirituality).

Some leaders will tell you that you cannot know absolute truth. So the alternative is to re-think everything we have done with Christianity over many centuries. Instead of building on the great scholars, they are rejected for something new. What they are saying without words ( and some with words) is that the Bible is not sufficient for our modern day culture, to reach this new generation.

We hear that we are out of touch with the times, the culture, and the consciousness change. All these sentiments are echoed by mystic universalist Matthew Fox who has said “Christianity has been out of touch with its `core,’ its center, its sense of mystical practice and cosmic awareness.” (The Cosmic Christ, p. 7, by Matthew Fox)

When leaders have had fundamental doubts and are uncertain about the sovereignty of God and His control as described in the Bible, it breeds doubts about the Word and weakens the words and teachings causing one to look for other ways. The “Emergent Church” takes the “seeker movement past its limitations to go where no Christian church has gone before- into inter-spirituality.

They want- to generate new thinking, new discoveries with new ways to do things. It is justified because we live in new world and we have to be futurist thinkers to survive the changes that are taking place. As Dan Kimball says “we must rethink virtually everything we are doing in our ministries.” On Rick Warrens internet site Dan Kimball writes “So, the emerging church is about is a re-imagining: re-imagining our preaching, our evangelism, and our worship services. A re-imagining of new types of churches and an opportunity to be rethinking all we do because we recognize that the next generation is at stake if we don’t. (Ministry toolbox Issue #110 7/9/2003 Three Things to Know About the Emerging Church by Dan Kimball)

Their goal sounds reasonable, while the opportunity to reach this generation is ever present, and beckoning, I don’t think the new directions they offer have viable answers. Use of various alternatives -Multi-sensory worship gatherings, the idea of preaching without words, story telling as the means is far removed from Jesus’ instructions on how we are to be his disciples and reach the world. “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed” (John 8:31). Paul wrote young pastor Timothy to preach word. Moving from the objective belief in absolutes (found in God’s word- the Bible) to a pursuit of an experience of the divine is not an answer but a repeat of mistakes made before. In this endeavor it becomes a denial of the wisdom, instructions and life found in Scripture.

Experience is what many are looking for. They deny the importance of theology (they even question it). The fact is; most of the common words that describe important facets of the faith have lost their meaning to them. Instead, Yoga, Contemplative prayer, labyrinth walking and a variety of other non-Biblical practices are adopted from other religions. We now have a synthesizing with Christianity that is being practiced and defended as a new direction for the church. At the heart of all this is relativism (and pluralism), although the participants would not see it this way. The Emergent church with practices such as Labyrinths, contemplative prayers, mantras, and chants (Benedictine monks) along with other ancient unbiblical observances are accepted. It is as if people do not know the words of Christ and are still searching for answers.

A participant in these alternate prayer and meditation practices can often experience oneness, achieving a mystical union with what they think is divine/God. But Jesus has not ordained man to approach Him in this manner.

The Benedictine Order is Catholic which practices contemplative prayer/meditation and holds to universalism in their teachings, not a good source to point to. Hear how this done by John Main a Benedictine monk. “Sit down…. Breathe calmly and regularly. Silently, interiorly, begin to say a single word. We recommend the prayer-phrase MA-RA-NA-THA. Recite it as four syllables of equal length. Listen to it as you say it, gently but continuously. Do not think or image anything-  spiritual or otherwise. If thoughts and images come, these are distractions at the time of meditation, so keep returning to simply saying the word.” (from the teachings of John Main basilica.org  source: Lighthousetrailsresearch.com)

People supportive of this movement are Robert Schuller, Richard Foster, Brennan Manning, Dan Kimball, Dallas Willard, Bruce Wilkinson, Erwin McManus, John Ortberg, John Eldredge, Dr. Robert Webber, Leonard Sweet, and dozens of lesser-known and unpublished people. Rick Warren and Bill Hybels also give credibility to the Emergent movement,  though their churches are not direct participants in the “Emergent movement.” Rick Warren participated at a Nationals pastors conference where yoga, labyrinths, and contemplative prayer were promoted; the same practices of the emerging church. Warren posts a number of the Emergent church leaders articles on his website pastors.com.

Henri Nouwen, a promoter of contemplative prayer and a universalist is referenced by Rick Warren in his book Purpose Driven Life (page 269). Henri Nouwen – “Through the discipline of contemplative prayer, Christian leaders have to learn to listen to the voice of love … For Christian leadership to be truly fruitful in the future, a movement from the moral to the mystical is required” (In the Name of Jesus, p. 6,31-32). We should expect more Biblical discernment from national leaders.

Many of the leaders and thinkers in this surfacing movement have written books, are consistently writing articles and it is discussed on web- blogs. In fact many can wax eloquent in their intellectual musings of what is wrong and what is needed. Their solution sounds more in the camp of philosophy and theosophy than being based on the Bible.

Defining the Emergent Church is varied depending on whom you ask; there is great variety. Most will agree mysticism is the support platform for the whole movement. An Emergent Church service can meet in homes because there is a more relaxed atmosphere, they want to experience Worship,  they rely on extra-biblical practices that go beyond the Word which Paul himself said not to do (1 Cor.4:6).

Leonard Sweet in his book Soul Tsunami: Sink or Swim in New Millennium Culture says: “Postmoderns want a God they can feel, taste, touch, hear and smell–a full sensory immersion in the divine.” They will use liturgical practices from the Orthodox, Lutheran, and Catholic Church. Images, icons, statues of saints, rosary beads, sacraments, scented candles and incense fill the sanctuary, silence is sought in mystical meditation, writing their names on the cross etc.

In the recent PBS program interviewer Kim Lawton notes: In a dark sanctuary filled with votive candles, fast-paced images flash across video screens. Participants come forward to write their names on a wooden cross on the floor. At the altar, a DJ with a computer mixes the music to set the mood.. (PBS Cover Story: The Emerging Church, Part One July 8, 2005 Episode no. 845)

Welcome to worship for the coming generation

Yoga- deep breathing, contemplative prayer, whatever can be used to immerse them with what they believe is the divine. In other words, they are looking for a  spiritual encounter using all their senses. If the Bible were being taught correctly one would not need to seek these other alternatives.

In the PBS interview LAWTON (reported): Worship is participatory and multisensory. People are encouraged to tangibly express their spirituality. Many are weaving together elements from different religious traditions, especially Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. Some are discovering medieval mystical practices such as walking the labyrinth”In the video (Which I suggest you watch, you need real player for it to work) one can see an Egyptian sun disk with wings over the platform, people are seen in yoga positions. And they call this CHURCH!

Solomon’s Porch is an emerging church; its pastor, Doug Pagitt, has the church meets sitting in a circle and they use couches and recliners instead of pews. Pagitt says in his PBS interview: When you sit on a couch as opposed to a bench or a pew or something else, you just sort of have a sense that you’re supposed to talk to that person. Because who do you sit on a couch with, other than a friend? And so, it implies a relationship.Pastor Pagitt:  “We’re trying to say something about where power lies in our community. And so to meet in the round says all of these people matter.”However Lawton reports that in their worship time, Pagitt doesn’t preach sermons, he leads discussions. No question is off limits.” Certainly there is a time for this kind of getting together but according to the Bible the leaders are to “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Eph 4:12). This to me is not worship in a true sense. It is body ministry and may even involve evangelism, while this may be a good thing it is not how a church is to be equipping the people.

Here is the most disturbing part, in the response an Unidentified Woman: There’s a sort of comfort in knowing that one, I don’t have to have the answers, and that there aren’t necessarily answers.”There aren’t answers? We are to have answers, especially if we are a leader. “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15).

The emphasis is on experience, as they want to make contact with the divine and experience their faith. Pastor Brian McLaren has been named among the 25 most influential evangelicals in America by Time magazine. A leader in the emerging church and called a “paradigm shifter, ”he states – It’s not just a matter of coming and sitting in a pew and enduring 50 or 70 or whatever minutes of observing something happen. But it’s saying, “I want to experience God. I’m interested in coming into an experience here” (The Emerging Church, covered on PBS July 8, 2005).

Isn’t this what took place in the Vineyard movement years ago, focusing on experiencing God over the basic instructions from His word. This leads to pragmatism, where anything that took place was acceptable and embraced as from God. So people fell, they yelled, they swelled, they barked, they even puked- they had activity that could not be found in the Bible but was practiced as if it was. Should we watch the same mistake at even a greater scale take place-to our youth? The idea of less teaching of the word and the emphasis more on experience doesn’t bring anyone to maturity, it actually prevents it.

McLaren is probably the most outspoken upfront representative of this church movement, in his book, “A Generous Orthodoxy” he says, “The Christian faith, I am proposing, should become (in the name of Jesus Christ) a welcome friend to other religions of the world, not a threat” (A Generous Orthodoxy McLaren, p.254.)

McLaren: “This is how I feel when I’m offered a choice between the roads of exclusivism (only confessing Christians go to heaven), universalism (everyone goes to heaven), and inclusivism (Christians go to heaven, plus at least some others). Each road takes you somewhere, to a place with some advantages and disadvantages, but none of them is the road of my missional calling: blessed in this life to be a blessing to everyone on earth.” (ibid. p. 113.)

Out goes Christ’s exclusive claims, in comes the inclusiveness that makes this interfaith. McLaren offers a more than Generous orthodoxy: He states in the book that not all people need to be Christians to follow Jesus. Some may be able to be “Buddhist or Hindu followers of Jesus.” He also states that, “God is interested in not only saving us from consequences after this life but in saving us from injustice, oppression, greed, and war, in this life.”

In the PBS interview Pastor McLaren: When we make it sound like we have all the bolts screwed down tight and all the nails hammered in, and everything’s all boxed up and we’ve got it all figured out, at that moment, I think we have stopped being faithful” (PBS interview).Obviously no one should claim to know everything, they can’t, but neither should anyone be saying this is not to be our goal. If we are not grounded, and do not know what we believe in how can we build on the foundation that is Christ, we will be blown about with every wind of doctrine (and practice). Being faithful comes by learning and applying the Scripture. Paul says to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.  Peter writes “giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins”(2 Peter 1:5-9).

McLaren seems to question nearly everything and wants others too as well. In his interview with Christianity Today “I don’t think we’ve got the gospel right yet. What does it mean to be ‘saved’? When I read the Bible, I don’t see it meaning, ‘I’m going to heaven after I die.‘ Before modern evangelicalism nobody accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, or walked down an aisle, or said the sinner’s prayer.” (The Emergent Mystique, Christianity Today Nov.2004)

It’s not that McLaren is interested in joining the liberal side of modern Protestantism. “I don’t think the liberals have it right. But I don’t think we have it right either. None of us has arrived at orthodoxy.”Comments like these make many evangelicals nervous”

I would say rightly so, but this goes far beyond making one nervous, when added to his other statement[s]. After nearly 2000 years he (and others) come along to tell us we do not have the majority of our teaching right? We are not orthodox yet. Can we likewise question the validity of his Bible presentation? While the form of modern day crusades and altar calls are not a trademark of the apostles one cannot argue that Peters proclamation on Pentecost had them come forward to be baptized publicly to declare their faith. But this is not the point: McLaren seems to surmise since no one has everything perfect,  then none of us have a handle on the truth. That is a flawed argument.

Jesus  said that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. ( John 3:15) Does this not have to do with heaven? Of course we are not just saved to go to heaven but our life there will be lived far longer than here on earth, in fact there are those who have already been there for over 1950 years.

In the book A New Kind of Christian by Brian  McLaren:  “The author reminds us that this is but the beginning of the journey, and ‘whatever a new kind of Christian is, no one is one yet… but every transformation has to start somewhere.” He then uses the idea of searching for a deeper life with God outside the authentic Christian faith. Indeed some of what he says may be valid until we further read what he means and the examples of his endorsements.

On p.3 “I meet people along the way who model for me, each in a different way, what a new kind of Christian might look like. They differ in many ways, but they generally agree that the old show is over, the modern jig is up, and it’s time for something radically new“…if we have a new world, we will need a new church. We won’t need a new religion per se, but a new framework for our theology. Not a new Spirit, but a new spirituality. Not a new Christ, but a new Christian.” (emphasis mine).

There is no such thing as “a new [kind] of Christian, ” nor “a new spirituality.” When you are born spiritually all things become new, you are a new creation. We have the same Holy Spirit that the early church had and his work is the same, we are being conformed to be like HIM. You are either part of the faith delivered to the saints of all time or not part of them at all. Culture does not change this. Both Peter and Jude whose letters deal with false teaching in the church have this admonishment “that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior” (2 Peter 3:2). “But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:17.)

When we look to change ourselves in ways outside the work of Christ (adopting other spiritual practices?) or start searching for other ways to influence people or draw them to Christ not found in the Scripture, we are being disobedient to the commands of the apostles which they received from Jesus.

At a recent Emergent Conference, Brian McLaren was one of the speakers. He used a PowerPoint presentation (this is posted on his web site.) These are quotes from that presentation: What if the dominant method [of] knowing truth is being replaced by a new methodology …”  “We embrace historic spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, contemplation, study, solitude, silence.” (referenced from lighthousetrailsresearch.com)

McLaren makes it seem as if we do not have the truth revealed, that we should still be searching to learn it . If he is presenting a new methodology then those terms we know must mean something different (especially those underlined). What is the method that a Christian is to learn the truth from? The Bible of course, the Holy Spirit will lead us and teach us the spiritual meaning of the word and we can apply it in our lives. This is the key difference to understanding where he (and others) are taking the church…

In the PBS interview pt.2 Lawton points out, “McLaren is at the forefront of a controversial new effort to rethink Christianity for a new generation. Not surprising that Orell Steincamp makes this observation of Tony Jones (who was appointed as their National Director June 2005); he views McLaren’s books and writings with approval and being part of this movement: “And books written by pastors and consultants about ‘doing church in a postmodern world’ are nothing new, nor are treatments of postmodernism by Christian academics.  Leonard Sweet and Stanley Grenz have garnered thousands of readers in the pastorate and seminaries. … McLaren, however, is saying something much different.  He goes beyond promoting a change in pastoral technique.  He’s challenging pastors to rethink their message, not just how they deliver the message.  He’s not writing about a change in context, he’s writing about changing the content. (emphasis mine). (http://www.christianitytoday.com/bc/2002/OO3/16.32.html)(Post-Evangelicalism” Books & Culture, Christianity Today, May/June 2002).

Changing the content? To make his direction clear we find Brian McLaren gives his approval of the book Reimagining Christianity. He says of the book: “Alan Jones is a pioneer in reimagining a Christian faith that emerges from authentic spirituality. His work stimulates and encourages me deeply.” (emphasis mine)

Who is Alan Jones? Episcopal priest and Dean of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco that promotes the labyrinth. He is a promoter of inter-spirituality and a mystic. He is  also a member of the Living Spiritual Teachers Project which is a group of about twenty-five that include Zen and Buddhist monks, New Agers and even Marianne Williamson (who promotes a Course in Miracles, a book that denies almost every authentic Bible teaching of Jesus Christ.)

In seeking to “redefine ourselves,” should we be taking instruction and inspiration from those who are openly hostile to Christianity? While McLaren is moved and inspired by this book we need to know what exactly he is endorsing. Alan Jones writes on p.132 in his book “Reimagining Christianity,” The Roman Catholic writer James Carroll certainly thinks so. He believes that we have made the sacred mistake of putting the cross at the center of Christianity in the wrong way. Carroll insists that Catholics must not only “reverently and silently” remove the cross from Auschwitz but, far more fundamentally, must remove the cross from the center of Christianity. The Church’s fixation on the death of Jesus as the universal saving act must end, and the place of the cross must be reimagined in Christian faith. Why? Because of the cult of suffering and the vindictive God behind it.   (Alan Jones, p. 132 Reimagining Christianity).

“Such writing disturbs our inherited certainties and, for some, seems to mean the total dismantling of traditional Christianity. It also invites us to learn a new language. Many Christians have come to see that the very foundational documents of Christianity are polluted (St. John’s gospel in particular, with its insistent mantra of the Jews, the Jews, the Jews as responsible for opposing and killing Jesus). This language must go. Believers are being challenged in their understanding of who and what Jesus thought he was. This is good. This doesn’t mean that I agree with Carroll in every particular, but I do think that basic beliefs should always be open to reimagining”

Jones also agrees with Duffy stating the doctrine of the Cross is a myth made up by man but is beneficial nonetheless (p. 133).

“Duffy is right when he insists: The cross is not some arbitrary demand of God imposed on a hapless victim. . . but a marker where human beings find them- selves, at the intersection of justice and mercy, time and eternity, death and life. All of which, of course, is the language of myth: but myth is the coin of religion, which makes sense of our world by telling such stories.

What! Is this promoting authentic spirituality? Again let me remind you what McLaren said – Alan Jones is a pioneer in reimagining a Christian faith that emerges from authentic spirituality. His work stimulates and encourages me deeply.”

McLaren has no excuse; this should be repugnant to any true believer. Are we to believe Jones has authentic spirituality when he rejects the work on the cross by God our savior! If this does not make you angry, we should read it all in its context, Jones further states: “The other thread of just criticism addresses the suggestion implicit in the cross that Jesus’ sacrifice was to appease an angry God. Penal substitution was the name of this vile doctrine. I don’t doubt for one moment the power of sin and evil in the world or the power of sacrificial love as their antidote and the peculiar power of the cross as sign of forgiveness and restoration, but making God vengeful, all in the name of justice, has left thousands of souls deeply wounded arid lost to the Church forever.” (p.168, emphasis mine).

“What does the image of the cross mean to me

The apostle Paul said “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified”(1 Corinthians 2:1-2). Paul preached “Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Corinthians 1:18,23). The book of Acts tells us that the apostles preached Christ crucified. If Jesus told us to pick our cross to follow him why is McLaren recommending a book that holds it to scorn. Do these men hate the cross? I have not heard such disdain for it except from the Moonies and other cult groups who deny who Christ is and why He came. The participators in New age movement (now known as the new spirituality) think of the cross in exactly the same manner.

Jones admits “Christianity as a set of beliefs doesn’t work for me. At the same time, I acknowledge the need for ritual and celebration in my life and find fulfillment and joy in many traditional practices. I light candles and ask for the prayers of the saints…. These disciplines … do not require me to believe literally in angels and the Virgin Birth. (p. 31).

Christianity can’t work unless one believes in the doctrines of Scripture; one must have real faith. The virgin birth is a necessary part to understand how God became flesh otherwise we have no teaching on the incarnation. One must embrace the crucifixion to be forgiven for their sins by God who became man.

Among these statements of the cross Alan Jones in his book Reimagining Christianity explains his panthiestic worldview- “The goal of the converted life is to find God in all things and is based on the conviction of the unity of reality. Everything is connected” (p. 200). “Jesus and Buddha have this in common with all great spiritual teachers– to make human beings more conscious of themselves” (p. 194).

How can McLaren recommend a book like this unless he himself embraces these teachings? Other religious beliefs, a denial of the cross, Christ as one of many spiritual teachers etc.. This sounds like the Bahai’s or something said straight out of the New Age Movement. However there are more problems with Brian McLaren endorsement of books; the utter lack of discernment is further exhibited when he endorsed Tony Campolo’s Speaking My Mind, where Campolo states: “[M]ysticism [contemplative prayer] provides some hope for common ground between Christianity and Islam.” (p.149). To fulfill this pattern McLaren has also endorsed Dave Fleming’s book, “The Seeker’s Way.” McLaren writes: “I’m a huge fan of all Dave Fleming’s work. He’s brilliant for starters, and more – he’s an energetic and engaging writer who lives what he writes about.  I’m especially enthusiastic about ‘The Seekers’ Way’ because it presents an approach to spiritual life and growth that is accessible to everyone and gives resources both to the beginner and the seasoned seeker.”He had to have read this book to endorse it. On http://www.theseekersway.com we have this description- Dave Fleming is a spiritual seeker, leadership coach and organizational midwife. He works with businesses, churches, non-profit organizations and individuals to help them express the inherent greatness that lies within.”A believer in Christ does not call himself a spiritual seeker (beginner or seasoned) when they have found the truth in Jesus Christ. But the facts show Fleming is still searching. Dave Fleming’s book has a chapter admiring Wayne Teasdale who believes in a global spirituality, that within the world religions we could all reach the same place through meditation. On the Living Spiritual Teachers Project website it says: The twenty-first century has been dubbed the “age of interspirituality” by Brother Wayne Teasdale by the sharing different spiritual traditions from all the world’s religions. In Teasdale’s book the Mystic Heart, the preface is written by Dr. Bruteau who states a universal spirituality based on mysticism is going to save the world” (quoted in A Time of Departure p.133 by Ray Yungen). This is reminiscent of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin’s book The Phenomena of Man, where he said of this new mysticism emerging, “I can be saved only by becoming one with the universe,” the very essence of mysticism. Brian McLaren is endorsing people who do not uphold historic Christianity. They are promoting an ancient enemy of the faith- Gnosticism/ mysticism, only in 21st century dress.

Inter-spirituality is about mix and match. A new open acceptance has now found a home in the church. Instead of holding to a narrow road view they now accept a wider approach to their spiritual worldview. The new Openness of God means that there is no absolute way, and that God is more lenient than we ever imagined. They have become so anti- denomination that we have gone to another extreme-to interfaith by adopting other religious practices.

Fleming interviews spiritual seekers as Marcus Borg (Jesus Seminar), Lauren Winner, Wayne Teasdale (promoter of inter-spirirtuality), Alan Jones (inter-spirirtuality), Joan Chittister (described as Benedictine sister with an ecumenical outreach and vision) Phil Gulley, and Jim Mulholland. The Seeker’s Way speaks to those who want more than what they have found thus far,…. encouraging them to embrace their search with joy and passion and giving them a broad framework from which to construct a seeker’s faith. Not a book about finding answers or making a case for faith, The Seeker’s Way helps those who seek to open themselves to a journey characterized by meaning, authenticity, & wholeness.I can only conclude that McLaren is not confused on what he believes but knows exactly what he believes in and is introducing to the church. As do many of these men that congregate together have the intent of reshaping the church and Christianity.

McLaren on his site recommends Wilber, Ken. A Theory of Everything. Shambala, 2000. His comment says”… Wilber promotes and exemplifies – which he calls “integral” thinking and which I call emergent” thinking – is powerful and important, in my opinion” (Thanks to Jay Gary for this recommendation.)I wonder if Jesus would have the same “opinion” contrary, I think He would have an absolute statement on this.

Shambala happens to be a new age counterfeit city of the new Jerusalem which they claim is floating invisibly in our atmosphere. (Jay Gary also holds to new age concepts.)

Topics in the book include: a leading model of human evolution called “spiral dynamics” Wilber’s ground-breaking “all quadrant, all level” approach for integrating the realms of science and religion. As Wilber explains, it is “a model that would unite all the known laws of the universe into one all-embracing theory that would literally explain everything in existence” (ed. Note: Wilber is not God, how could he do this?)

“the integral search finally succeeds by finally letting go of the search itself, there to dissolve in a radical Freedom and consummate Fullness that was always already the case, and one abandons a theory of everything in order to simply be Everything, one with the All, in this endlessly fulfilled moment.”

Wilber is describing the mystical experience of oneness that new age adherents and mystics are united in, (panentheism).

Leonard Sweet also references Wilber several times in his book “Quantum Spirituality” stating: “The Christian of tomorrow will be a mystic, one who has experienced something, or he will be nothing.” 45. See the dialogue between David Spangler and Ken Wilber, “Critiquing the New Age,”Yoga Journal, July/August 1988,49. Ken Wilber, “Eye to Eye: Science and Transpersonal Psychology,” Ken Wilber, The Atman Project: A Transpersonal View of Human Development.  Eddington’s article “Defense of Mysticism,” in Quantum Questions: Mystical Writings of the World’s Great Physicist, ed. Ken Wilber.

Sweets affiliation  with Wilber is concerning. In an ad for Ken Wilber Kosmic Consciousness (audio CD) Before the birth of the universe there existed your “Original Face,” the limitless Self that has been present throughout the unfolding of inert matter into life-and that continues to dwell within us at every level of consciousness. Where is this grand evolution taking us-and how can each of us participate more fully in it? On Kosmic Consciousness, Ken Wilber invites you to find out.” (emphasis mine)

It contains- How meditation works and why it is the most reliable tool for personal development; The chakra system, a paradigm for the unfolding self; Altered states of consciousness- how they can catalyze (or hinder) transformation; the enneagram; Tantra (yoga); Reincarnation-myth or provable phenomenon? Ascending, descending, and “non-dual” spiritual paths.

This is blatant mysticism, making use of other religions, Kosmic Consciousness has long been an accepted term for the mystical  experience of oneness through various occult methods, and McLaren And Sweet are fine with this!

No matter what you call the practices now taking place in the church one needs to be aware of those who want to introduce “a new spirituality. “… as New Agers … once the occult . . . terminology is removed, we have concepts and techniques . . . acceptable to the general public. So we can change the names and . . . open the New Age door to millions who normally would not be receptive” (New Age leader Dick Sutphen, Infiltrating the New Age Society in What Is, Summer 1986, p.14 quoted in Dave Hunts book Occult Invasion)

Well they no longer need to do this, they only need to sanctify it by calling it Christian and it is sanitized for church use. Even if one will not concede that these men are actively participating in new age spirituality, one cannot deny they have embraced at least some of the same values, ideology, and practices.

Consider this explanation from Mike Perschon–  I worked as a church planter the following year and began using contemplative elements in worship from the outset. We held “thin place” services in reference to a belief that in prayer, the veil between us and God becomes thinner. Entire nights were devoted to guided meditations, drum circles, and “soul labs.” At soul labs we used the rave culture’s approach of multiple rooms for different music to create a number of prayer stations, where people could try various approaches to contemplative prayer. (Desert Youth Worker Disciplines, Mystics, and the Contemplative Life by Mike Perschon)

“Now all I need to do is close my eyes and begin deep breathing or whisper a phrase from a Logos meditation, and my heart is opened to feel God’s presence. Like anything else we do, the contemplative life becomes more and more natural with practice.

The morning after I expressed my intention to the group, a young lady came to me with a concerned expression. “You’re going to teach us to meditate?” she asked.”That’s right,” I said. “Isn’t that New Age or Buddhist?” she asked. “Well, Buddhists do meditate, and there are many New Age meditative practices, but what I’m going to teach is Christian meditation.” I silently promised myself to never use the word meditation in a public Christian setting ever again. “What’s the difference?” “Well, on the surface, nothing. The approach to meditation for a Buddhist looks an awful lot like what I do. The difference is the reason we’re doing it. The Buddhist empties the mind for the sake of emptying it. The Christian empties the mind to fill it with Christ.” “I don’t know about this.” Responded the woman

Good reply, her discernment was working; but alas it was ignored as Perschon went on. It becomes clear that certain leaders involved know exactly what they introducing to the sheep. The fact is, a Buddhist empties the mind to reach illumination to have oneness. A Christian does not empty his mind to be filled, we are not to do this. We actively and willfully surrender portions of our life to Christ for Him to fill it and control us. David said he meditates on God’s Statutes, works, precepts, majesty, and His WORD (Ps.119).

Paul echoes David’s sentiment “Whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy– meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:8). Jesus uses the word meditate as he explains about giving a testimony before adversaries “Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer” (Luke 21:14). Clearly He meant thinking of what one will say.

Near the end of the first part of the PBS interview with some of the leaders in the Emerging Church Mr. JONES’ response seems to sum it all up: The emerging church is a place of conversation and dialogue and movement. Where that’s going to go, we don’t know. We’re figuring this out together. We don’t have an agenda of what it looks like at the end of the road. We just want to gather up people who are on this road, who want to go together on it.(part one- http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/week845/cover.html

part two-  http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/week846/cover.html

You don’t get to a goal when you don’t know what road you are traveling on. This reminds me of being on a boat on a river that is carried with the current without any steering,  the crew admires their surroundings of the sun and sky, calling it a beautiful day. They comment on how quickly they are traveling together- being unaware that a waterfall is just up ahead around the bend.

We need to understand that many know what they are involved in but do not care. They (not all) may not have an agenda what it will be in the end but they certainly have an agenda in how they are traveling to get there. There are too many statements that refer to the mystics writings, too many practices that resemble the mystics for them  not to know what they are doing.” http://www.letusreason.org/current73.htm

pt.2 The Issue of other Religious Practices as worship in the Church

? It is a sign of the necessary crucifixion of ideologies in the face of concrete human experience-the crucifixion of power plays, the crucifixion of a god we think we can conceptually control. It also is a sign of humanity’s need to find someone to blame for its ills. When we suffer or are threatened, we look for scapegoats. Scholar Rene Girard suggests that scapegoating is the idée fixe at the heart of our culture. It is, for him, the mechanism on which society, culture, and religion are based. The murder of the innocent and our ability to make acts of scapegoating violence sacred seem to be built into us. The cross speaks directly to this dark issue of scapegoating

I have seen this course offered at two churches. When I looked into it, I noticed that Dave Ramsey promotes tithing. Well here is a layout of what he says about it. When I find his contact information, I will be sure to contact him personally.

As Christians, this tithing monster needs to be put to death. The majority of believers do not do it, WHY?

Well the pro-tithers will accuse you of being selfish. Great starter for getting one to tithe, GUILT AND FALSE ACCUSATION.

A video has sparked some serious discussion within the Christian community. All of the links will spell out the situation as it stands, but the real issue is P4CM, and who they really are……. This ministry is getting ready to be on an HBO documentary, yet they have a serious Biblical issue.

“why are we gossiping about these people on a christian website when the the bible says don’t gossip but restore each other Gal. 6”
How can we truly restore, when we do not have all the facts. We do not need all the facts when sin occurs. There is alot more here than meets the eye. When situations like this occur, the ripple effects can be devastating. We need to stop acting like a bunch of babies who have fallen in love with some celebrities, and are doing all to protect them, when the best thing they can do is come clean. You need someone from the outside who is not going to be partial.
But you know what’s probably going to happen; some people are going to pray, some people do not even care, and this will be forgotten, and no real repentance is going to come forth.
A restoration was attempted, but the last part of this verse was evidently ignored to be careful when helping another out.
We need judgment from within, and we need to stop coddling grown men and women who sin, especially those with a public persona. They chose this life and need to understand that there are consequences. 4-5 fornications/adulteries is not something to just sit on your hands and pray about. Some serious spiritual oversight is necessary here.
Let the world forgive their own by in their way, and let us do it our way. If these people would stop acting like they’re in a frat, I believe the Christian community will be more forgiving for coming forth than trying to let this blow over into the sea of forgetfulness.
If we are gossiping, then let THEM come on here and shut us up.
I am straight up enough to say this here and now; I am willing to meet with them face-to-face, hammer this whole thing out. But first, forgiveness must truly start from within their own camp.

My real problem is with Christians who want to act like nothing happened. Pastor Justin Cox of Passion 4 Christ Movement has embraced these guys, but rebukes a sinner, Jay-Z for his lyrics. Once Justin Cox put on the Title of Pastor that made him responsible for the P4CM flock. He has come against the prosperity gospel, yet one of the main advertisers of the EX-Shirts is Canton Jones, a member of, “Prosperity Preacher”, Creflo Dollar’s church. Holla atchya boy Canton. What’s worse is Creflo’s HERETICAL DOCTRINE/ANOTHER GOSPEL of Jesus not being God. Address that Pastor Cox, and I will be sure to hype that up.

Here are some key and essential facts. No one knows how long the various affairs of the guys and the women involved have been occurring. One thing for sure is that they are still living public lives as if nothing happened. Now I believe in forgiveness, and I believe in discipline, for I have received both, as well as having to do both. The other fact is that these “indiscretions” did not happen on moments notice. So with that said, how did these scandals come to light, and how long have they been going on?

ALL OF THIS EXPOSURE WOULD HAVE NEVER COME TO LIGHT HAD PASTOR COX FOLLOWED BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES IN JUDGING. WHAT’S MORE, HAD PASTOR COX EMBELLISHED A LITTLE ELDER OVERSIGHT, THIS WHOLE MESS WOULD NOT HAVE COME TO THIS.

I am just taken aback how ministry’s that are so cutting edge, believe they are immune to error, criticism, and fellowship with outsiders.

PART 1
Now all P4CM has to do is explain why they are deeply involved with a Christian, whom they have not judged openly, but rather embraced, who has sinned publicly, but will JUDGE OPENLY, a sinner who disses Jesus Christ, as would be expected. Here’s a piece of the puzzle.

This radio interview from GOSPEL RAPPER Da Truth gives us some insight on where and from whom he got is RAP STYLE. P4CM (PASSION 4 CHRIST MOVEMENT), where the Pastor is Justin Cox, just recently berated Jay-Z, a sinner, for dissing Christ. This ministry also has Da Truth promoting their Ex-Shirts with his special Ex-Sinner shirt.

Go to the 1 hour 5 minute mark and listen from there.

PART 2
Here we have Da Truth advertising P4CM’s Ex-Shirts with his EX-Sinner shirt, the shirt he is promoting on his tour along with P4CM. Next AUDIO will be the radio interview with Pastor Cox and a young lady named Precious. Please listen closely to her repeated statements to Pastor Cox about and th announcers about so-call…ed scandals.

PART 3
This audio is very important. A young lady named Precious and Pastor Justin Cox of P4CM-PASSION 4 CHRIST MOVEMENT are being interviewed about Jay-Z’s Emipre State of Mind. Start listening at the 33:00-35:00 minute mark. She says PEOPLE (plural) in the Gospel Rap Game not representing Christ. She calls their actions SCANDALS. What’s next? The scandals and who’s involved.

Now to the other scandals
“Confused? Well, here’s the recap in a nutshell: Tye cheated on his wife with a choir member who was his good friend’s baby’s mother. Da’ T.R.U.T.H., Tye’s mentor, then cheated with Tye’s wife.

Until recently Tye Tribbett has been highly critical of the moral values of mainstream artists such as Beyoncé and Omarion. He also called on people not to wear clothes by rappers Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jay-Z because they “carry their spirits.”

Earlier this year, Da’ T.R.U.T.H.’s label-mate, gospel rapper Ambassador, also admitted to a ‘moral failure in his marriage’.”

The god of the harvest, or the reaper. Wow! How could this god be confused with Jesus? Better yet, is this a similarity?
The god of the harvest

The god of the harvest

Yeah Yeah, I know Christmas is actually a great time to share the gospel. Well for copyright purposes, I can only share this link, which covers the historicity of Christmas, and the excuses people make to celebrate a Pagan Holy Day. http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Psychology/xmas/celeb.htm

I do not understand why pastors keep trying to FORCE the issue of putting Jesus back into Christmas when he was NEVER in it in the first place. If I as a pastor had to make a compromise, understanding that some of the congregation will do as they please, it would be to properly educate them on what Christmas is really about, let them know that it won’t be embraced here at this church on these grounds. BUT NO, Pastors must push Jesus into this Pagan Holiday, instead of celebrating it just like it was when he was born. Many Pastors are afraid to buck tradition for the sake of membership. IF PAUL CAN PRESENT AN UNKOWN PAGAN GOD, AS JESUS, WHY CAN’T PASTORS PRESENT, WHAT TO MANY WOULD BE UNKNOWN GODS SUCH AS SATURN, SHOWING THEM WHAT CHRISTMAS IS REALLY ABOUT?????????????????????????

I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT JESUS NEVER NEVER EVER WAS THE CENTERPIECE OF CHRISTMAS, AND THAT IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE WORSHIP OF PAGAN GODS AND EMBRACING OF MAKE BELIEVE FIGURES WE SEE TODAY. Saint Nick, Santa Claus, the elves, flying reindeer, snowmen, abominable snowmen, bumbles, etc.

She had to see it to change her heart, but thank God it did. What will it take for the Christian to see this is a murder, not a political issue. Unfortunately, EVERYONE WHO PROFESSES TO BE SAVED REALLY IS BORN AGAIN.

No Freemason who professes to be a Christian has yet to both answer and explain whether or not the Deity (WHO THEY ALSO CLAIM TO BE THE CREATOR) theY call the Great Architect Of The Universe (GAOTU) is Jesus Christ. Whenever I pose the question, an immediate silence hits the phone. It even seems on a message board that you can hear the eery silence of the computer keyboard. But eventually answers do return, and not ones nearly associated with the question. As with the organization, Jesus’ name rarely comes up in the answer. But what awaits the response to their yes and no answers shock them into a haunting reality. But often the answers are that Freemasonry (FM) is not a religion. That has nothing to do with my question. It does not take a religion to teach a false doctrine, or to improperly describe or define who God IS NOT.

Please go to www.ephesians5-11.org for copies of the first three degrees of freemasonry.

The only two possible answers that are associated with Jesus are 1.) no Jesus is not the GAOTU. 2.) yes he is the GAOTU.

Here is the DILEMNA.

#1.) If Jesus is no the GAOTU, and Jesus is God, then who is the GAOTU? Uh Oh!!!!!!!! He’s an idol, a false deity, a light that is actually darkness, an angel of light, etc. I believe that ends that conversation

#2.) If Jesus is the GAOTU then all the attributes ascribed to this Deity must be ones that are ascribed to Jesus. Here’s a quick example. Is the GAOTU the creator? Yes! Is Jesus the creator? Yes! Is the GAOTU God? Yes!  Is Jesus Christ God? Yes! So here is the dilemna that the Christian Mason wishes he could avoid. If the GAOTU universe is God, how can FM offer A WAY of immortality of the soul (going to heaven) through their own organization? If the GAOTU is the True God, then how could this be so, seeing that Jesus is the ONLY WAY. Also, the GAOTU is a Deity to men of all religions. He is Allah to the Muslim, Jehovah (not Jesus! THIS LOOMS LARGE) to the Christian, Buddha to the Buddhist, Shiva and many others to the Hindu, etc. Notice where it is not Jesus to the Christian, but usually just God with NO NAME GIVEN. So here is the greatest problem of all. JESUS IS THE CREATOR AND HE IS GOD, BUT HE IS NOT GOD TO MEN OF ALL RELIGIONS.

So Christians belong to an organization that honors, prays to, and receives light from a FALSE, FAKE, IDOL GOD. Should the believer remain in such an organization?

Read this dialogue between someone who professes to be saved and a Mason.

A murderer, rapist, or a petty theft accepting JC as his L and S is no different from a 33rd accepting JC as his L and S.” W2BDN- A MASON

Had to quote this! Tell me, what happens to the murderer who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior?” truthinlove(TIL)

@TIL…..I guess the same thing will happen to the 33rd, what is this thread about again? The point is and again him being a 33rd does not matter. Accepting JC is all that matters.

Or are you saying that just because he was a 33 degree mason then he going to Hell? Be careful.” W2BDN

According to you, being a 33rd does matter. You were the one who lumped them together with murderers and rapists. So according to your logic Work, what happens to the Mason when he accepts Jesus?” MICROFISH- This is me, THE ADMIN, Min. H

@Microfish “I” lumped them together? I was showing you the difference of importance to each of their own submission which is NONE. According to my God he he will forgive and accept you no matter who you are or what you’ve done…it doesn’t even matter of your “Profession” either. He will even give you a second and third chance because that’s what kind of God he is,As long as you accept JC as L and S.

So therefore I did NOT say/type or ever imply that there is a difference. Insert “attentive ear” smilee >>>here<<<<. I don’t know what happens to a Mason more importantly a 33 degree Mason. But in my Bible, when JC vouch for you, God said HE will forgive you.” W2BDN

How can I use an attentive ear on something I am reading? LOL! I know what you mean, but that still begs the question as to what happens to each when they accept Christ and REPENT? ” Min. H

That’s because you tried to massage Masonry into being a religion to this young man and it’s NOT. IMO I think you should of referred him to a local Lodge to get real insight on “Masonry”. Then let him go from there. If he wanted Christian guidance, Bible Study I’m sure you that dude. Separate the two, and you’ll find that Masonry has is value in today’s trying times.” W2BDN

I am a former member of a local lodge and can tell him what he needs to know from the Christian perspective.

I was talking to a guy who was thinking about being a mason. Some of his friends said he should consider it. He called me and at the end of a 45 minute conversation, I came to this final conclusion: “Freemasonry is full of crap”. It was in reference to its historical basis, and present realities. Forget the fact that the GAOTU is a fabricated false creator. Forget their teaching of the Fatherhod of God and the Universal Brotherhod of Man. It is the stupid quest of a born again believer to go through a myriad of rituals to try and find the true name of God, when they should already know it. They play along with the charade while their LODGE BROTHERS die and go to hell, because they do not feel the need, or have the courage to witness to them. I hear all of this talk about masons having bible studies. Have a bible study comparing “your” creator to Jesus to the GAOTU and see what you come up with?” Min. H

As stated before Masonry is NOT a Religion. Going into Masonry thinking it is-is a big mistake and a disappointing to some. I was saved and still saved going into Masonry.

Ponder this. Doesn’t Religion particularity Christianity Teach (your words->) Fatherhod of God and the Universal Brotherhod of Man? Think about it now. Treat your neighbor as if…..,love thy (fill in the blank), It teaches us Jesus is the son of God who is the All knowing, the Most High, who is a loving and jealous God and it goes on. But you know what I wouldn’t trade my religion (Christian) with Masonry.

So you see I know who I am, who my Daddy is and who I belong to long before Masonry.” W2DBN

Well now you have two daddies. I leave that for you to ponder.

“Ponder this. Doesn’t Religion particularity Christianity Teach (your words->) Fatherhod of God and the Universal Brotherhod of Man? Think about it now.”
No need to think about it when John 1:12 tells me who my brothers and sister are……….

II corinthinas 6:14-18 also claims what one should do to be his child.

Let me ask you this, is the GAOTU, the god that your brotherhood calls the creator, JESUS CHRIST?

I don’t care if I fail all of your challenges, this is the only question I would like for you to answer.

Does Freemasonry offer a plan of Eternal Salvation with or without Jesus Christ? You can/can’t answer that????” Min. H

@Micro. Your Question to me. “Does Freemasonry offer a plan of Eternal Salvation with or without Jesus Christ? You can/can’t answer that????”

My answer:
No

Reason: Freemasonry is not a religion so therefore it does not offer a plan of Eternal Salvation. That is what the Church is for. And yes I am a member of one. And No I don’t serve to (TWO) Masters/Gods or what ever you bout to come back with. My God is a jealous God.

Why wouldn’t I be able to answer that.

You’re no good at this.” W2BDN

The best way to refute a mason is to use his organization’s OWN WORDS.

“Let us imitate the good man in his virtuous and amiable conduct, in his unfeigned piety to God, in his inflexible fidelity to his trust, that we may welcome death as a kind messenger sent from our Supreme Grand Master to translate us from this imperfect to that all perfect and glorious Lodge above, where the Supreme Architect of the Universe presides” (Masonic Monitor of the Degrees of the Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason, p.68).

“Why did the Worshipful Master present you with a lambskin or white apron?”

Ans. “The lambskin has, in all ages, been deemed an emblem innocence; he therefore, who wears the lambskin as a badge of a Mason, is thereby continually reminded of that purity of life and rectitude of conduct which is so essentially necessary to our gaining admission into the celestial lodge above, where the Supreme Architect of the Universe presides.”
Entered Apprentice Degree- I will give it in the words of the NC monitor later.

“My Brother, I now present you this lambskin or white leather apron. It is an emblem of innocence and the badge of a Mason- the distinguished badge of a Mason.

It may be that, in the coming years, upon your head may rest the laurel wreaths of victory; pendent from your breast may hand jewels fit to grace the diadem of an Easter potentate; nay, more than these, with light added to the coming light, your ambitious feet may tread round after round of the ladder that leads to fame in our mystic circle, and even the purple of the Fraternity may rest upon your honored shoulders; but never again from mortal hands, never again until your enfranchised spirit shall have passed upward and inward through the pearly gates, shall any honor so distinguished, so emblematical of purity and all perfections, be conferred upon you as this which I now bestow.

(Done) It is yours; yours to wear throughout an honorable life, and at your death to be deposited upon the coffin which shall enclose your lifeless remains, and with them laid beneath the clods of the valley. Let its pure and spotless surface be to you an everpresent reminder of a purity of life and rectitude of conduct,” a never ending argument for nobler deeds, for higher thoughts, for greater achievements. And when at last your weary feet shall have come to the end of life’s toilsome journey, and from your nerveless grasp shall drop forever the working tools of life, may the record of your life and actions be as pure and spotless as this fair emblem which I place within your hands tonight; and when your trembling soul shall stand naked and alone before the Great White Throne, there to receive judgment for the deeds done while here in the body, may it be your portion to hear from Him who sitteth as the Judge Supreme the welcome words: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant! Thou has been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things! Enter thou into the joy of Thy Lord.”

NO JESUS, but eternal life is promised. Yet there is a serious error, yet is it an error. TGWTOJ is for SINNERS only. So we see who is truly the GAOTU…..LOL! or is it really funny?

Who has been led astray, run amok, etc.?

THIS IS ALL IN TH FIRST DEGREE. MONUMENTAL SCRIPTURAL ERRORS, BY THOSE WHO CLAIM TO HAVE LIGHT……..

I think I am fairly decent at this w2bdn, and I haven’t been a mason for almost 16 years.” Min. H

TGWTOJ (The geat white throne of judgment)……

Let me ask you this again, W2BDN; is the GAOTU, the god that your brotherhood calls the creator, JESUS CHRIST?

Is he also Allah?

Can he be Buddha too?

I did not ask if FM was a religion, so please take the hook out of the “RED HERRING’S” mouth.

I don’t care if I fail all of your challenges, this is the only question I would like for you to answer.” Min. H

no. And I’ll tell you why.

FREEMASONRY IS NOT A RELIGION. So why would they? See you keep saying that to sprout an underlying message on this board to whomever that Freemasonry is a Religion…AND it simply is NOT.

Jesus Christ was not a creator. Religiously speaking I don’t think no one ever referred to him as a “Creator”. So your question doesn’t make any sense in any religion NOR Masonry. He is the son of GOD and GOD is the creator.

The Religion Islam reserves the name ALLAH to GOD.

Micro I respect you. But it is seems as though you were highly mislead going into Masonry or some where something went horribly wrong if in fact you even took the degrees. But right now it looks as if you are reading a ritual and trying to understand wants going on. You have to live Freemasonry not read it and think you know it. EVERYTHING you’ve stated/said is internet base/face valued/or misunderstood reading. And in Freemasonry that is a crucial mistake OR NOT a mistake” W2BDN

Min. H- Did you see that people? W2BDN stated that Jesus is not the creator.

The problem is now out in the open. Freemasonry has and is successfully achieving its purpose, and you sir are the example.” truthinlove

Creflo Dollar Says CHRISTIANS Have 3 YEARS LEFT To GET RICH! (wealth transfer/debt cancellation)

I added this video, because it shows you how far people can go with this prosperity foolishness. Just wait until a video with Larry Huch and Paula White comes out. It discusses the tithe and the first fruit offering, no different than at Elevation.

Part of the exit interview
7. Is there anything that we could do to have you reconsider your decision to leave?

Min. H
Stop treating members like second-class citizens. We have the right to know what’s going on in the church without having to ask. We are not some group of loyal subjects of low intelligence; at least I am not.

8. What could we improve on?

Min. H
Being a lot more transparent towards the congregation. I believe they would be a lot more transparent with you.

[This is the entire deacon board above]

This letter is being written to inform all members of Elevation Baptist Church, which includes the leadership, about my experience while a disciple. This letter will also be made available for public viewing.

I met with the Pastor twice before even joining the church. I may not have asked all the questions, but I surely did not get any hint of specific requirements of the church (i.e. the mission, vision, and direction of the church). That is to say, those requirements other than what would be considered normal. I wrote a letter to the Pastor detailing my concerns 9-10 months ago. These concerns went unanswered by him. Answering one’s concerns could be placed under the, “what could we improve on”, section. Failing to answer one’s concerns is not shepherding, and trying to label sheep as goats just because we butt heads with the leadership is no excuse for not responding either. In my 2.5 years, which does not include 6 months of visitation at Elevation, I have never heard an in-depth teaching on tithes and offerings, yet this is a major aspect of EBC discipleship as concerning the “Pastor’s” vision. I didn’t miss many services or bible studies either, and went to all the new member’s classes. There is just a simple statement on the back of the bulletin, on the giving envelopes, while tithing had a brief mention in the new member’s class. The only reason why I never attended the Crown Financial classes was because the Pastor was unwilling to discuss the issue of tithing with me. I had already discussed it with the business minister, and I did not want to cause a stir. But Minister Foust said that our discussion on the issue was final (the details of that discussion are in the letter to Minister Foust). I have been in “church” and in leadership long enough and understood that as long as I kept my mouth shut, it was copasetic for the leadership and myself. I knew that there was a culture of secrecy, or may I say, keeping things close to the chest. The very organization that Pastor Carmichael opposes (Greek-Letter Organizations) is the very thing EBC was or has become. But there does come a time when one needs to speak up. My purpose, as stated here, and at the time I met with the Pastor Carmichael at the new member’s orientation, was to help the Pastor. I did try to do that, but all attempts fell on deaf, unwilling, or brainwashed ears.

This is where it all came to a head for me. Pastor Carmichael was preaching and went to Psalms 1. He quoted at least verse 1 and labeled, “ANYONE”, as “UNGODLY” who spoke against “HIS” vision. Now there is a difference in saying that, and simply asking all that disagree, please set up an appointment to see me to talk about it. Of course he does not want to do that, it would shed light on the reality of what he already knows to be true based on the balance in the Capital Campaign Fund (CCF). Allow me to discuss the CCF.

In the most recent capital campaign fund handout, there was not even the option to say “no” to supporting the vision. What kind of foolishness is that, when you do not give people a choice? Well I could say a great many things about the $17,000,000 “burden” upon the people, but I will say this; I knew then where this was going, and the 2007 business meeting showed me that. After raising only $65,000 for the capital campaign fund after the first 3 months, the pressure was on Pastor Carmichael. Usually giving is the greatest at the beginning. Now, I do not claim to be a prophet, but I knew that some type of “NEW” GIVING SCHEME from the Old Testament would be presented. What led me to this belief? Experience…. It only took a week, and next thing you know, in the new Sunday Bulletin, “THE FIRST FRUIT OFFERING SCHEME” was presented. But there is something that I do not hear discussed, and that is the amount of interest to be paid on this loan, nor have I heard a peep about why the Capital Campaign Fund has been such a failure. The fund is supposed to take in $222,222 per month. After 15 months, it has only yielded, approximately $197,000. I called at the end of the campaign, which was March 1, 2009 to see how much was in the fund. Once again, I was met with cloak and dagger tactics and did not get my question answered. I was told that we didn’t quite make it!!!!! Now I do not presume to know what the final tally was, but I do know with 3 months to go EBC was $3,800,000 short. I think quite not quite making it was a lie, but that is my opinion.

Now let me ask Pastor Carmichael a question. Do you honestly believe the people are with you on your vision? Another thing that caught my eye was that the $17,000,000 was for the first of multiple phases. I just recently found out that the whole project is $70,000,000. Has the INTEREST been discussed with the congregation, or is it included with the final price? Is EVERYONE aware that $70 MILLION is the final cost with or without interest? With the estimated 1500 disciples to support this project, they could build 1500, $46,000 homes. One place to come and fellowship, or 1500 places to fellowship, which do you think is better for the people?

When I began exposing Greek-Letter Organizations and Freemasonry 14 years ago, I learned a painful lesson. I learned that sinners were not the real problem. I learned that the church had been infiltrated by people in these groups. Yet, one thing I noticed was that Full Gospel/Charasmatic/Pentecostal type churches were basically immune to having public displays of their membership. This has all changed as well as my range of exposing evils. I have always been critical of some false teachings in the church, INCLUDING those I once held, practiced, and/or embraced. So when I speak on the Title of this post, I am not speaking in ignorance.

The purpose of this post is to expose a prevalent attitude, behavior, and arrogance that runs amuck in Pentecostal circle. I will then follow this blog up with the fathers of pentecostalism and its virulent offspring called Word Faith and Charasmatic.

These next posts are based on some E-mails I received. It was my proper and godly response to them, and the subsequent responses to mine that lead to this post. So, I will allow the Body of Christ to judge this.

These are the two e-mails I received. The Blog entries can no longer be found on the internet. My personal insertion were placed on June 2009. All other comments are original. WHEREVER YOU SEE, “Min. H”, is where I added some comments after the 2008 e-mail exchanges.

Min.H (8-18-2011)

Based on some responses I have read of late, I would like to let the readers know something else. I personally heard G. Craige at a church discussing this very subject prior to receiving these e-mails. He was so careful when discussing the Jakes situation in public not to mention his name. He kept going on and on about it. Then I, without G. Craige knowing, started to receive these “UNDERGROUND” e-mails. This was the main reason why I came out publicly, A YEAR AFTER originally receiving the e-mails for those who believe I just reacted with no thought or prayer on the matter.

Note: Pay Close attention on who the e-mails are from.

Robbielott and Yahluv are not a part of G. Craige’s buddies. I copied them on all of the e-mails for witnesses.

Lift those hands and say “Thank You Jesus”

Is Bishop Jakes still GAY?

Expensive Tailored suits. People screaming, shouting and dancing. A great spoken word with amazingly clear pictures being painted. This looks like the move of God. It seems like we have built the tower whose top reached up into heaven. Certainly Christianity is at its greatest level since Jesus died for her. After all, Apostle Paul was a great preacher but Bishop Jakes and friends are even greater still. Conferences where people have spent mortgage payment in order to attend. Book sells. Cd’s…DVD’s and even clothing. It is a regular Walmart. Thousands of people in attendance and millions watching around the world. This is phenomenal! Does being phenomenal mean God is doing the work?

Bishop Jakes has done a wonderful job flying under the radar of concerning what he really represents but the time has come for the HYPE to be exposed and the truth to be told. There are many people who know the truth concerning this man and his ministry but are to afraid to speak because there is an automatic assumption that because something is popular, God is in it. Let me be very clear…Bishop Jakes is not who many believe him to be. All of the mighty speeches and mesmerizing phrases are not what they appear to be. Bishop Jakes and his kind are spoken of in The Word of God. Jude vs. 4 talks about men who crept in. The word crept is the past tense of the word “creep.” In other words, Bishop Jakes is a creep! I don’t mean it to be funny nor is it intended to be offensive but it is true! Let me explain……

I have known Bishop Jakes for quite some time. I met him before the world embraced him as the next Billy Graham or before he had made his many millions of dollars. I met him when he was Elder Thomas Jakes. At first, I was equally mesmerized by his ability to preach revelatory word that seems easy for him but difficult for others to see in the Word of God. He shared with me how he was an avid bible reader and told me the way he read was the reason he could see what others did not. He would share many things with me that seemed to be a help to my ministry. Eventually I became his Armour bearer. This allowed me to see ministry from a completely different angle. I saw back room deals that I never knew happened as well as back door deals that were a total shock. More on that later.

Bishop Jakes had started climbing the ladder in preaching circles around the tri-state area and seemed to just have doors open before him without much effort. He would tell me of stories of other preachers and their involvement in scandal after scandal always remarking that it was shameful and that he was supportive of the leaders who were under demonic attack. I would later find out that he was supportive because he was exactly what they were….HOMOSEXUAL!

I have had an amazing level of warfare because of the knowledge that I have concerning Bishop Jakes! I have sought Godly counsel from men whom I respect to only be told that it was my responsibility to cover him. I bought into it and did what I thought was right until month after month passed and then year after year and I would hear of young men that he was introducing to an Unholy lifestyle. I could only ask God to help me with what I should do about what I knew. After much travail in prayer and also after enduring an amazing onslaught from people who use to be my friends, I have come to one conclusion. First, I have asked God to forgive me for my silence. While Bishop Jakes was not successful in his attempt to have sex with me, he did everything he could to try to convince me. After seeing that I would not fall for his tactic, he said something to me that to this day still reverberates in my ear…”sometimes to much light hurts the eyes.” At first I had no idea what he meant. Then later understood that he was saying to me that he had revealed too much of himself to me. DUH!!! What an understatement from such an articulate man. This is where my personal warfare began. Questions began to surface in my head like…”what kind of sign was I giving off that made him think he could approach me?” Then the warfare took on a feeling that I felt a need to prove my manhood. I began to have sex with as many women as would allow me to satisfy my lust to prove my manhood. All the while protecting his”too much light.” The saddest part to this warfare is that because of the information that I had, Bishop was afraid that I would use it against him so he began to forecast me as a trouble maker and a liar. All of the mutual friend that we had received phone calls and were told not to invite me to speak at their events. Obviously because of his reputation, he was believed and I was not. He even sowed seed in my home between my wife and I by telling her that I was no longer welcomed to the church but that she could continue coming. That marriage eventually ended in divorce. It took me awhile to stop having dreams of going to his church and testifying! (smile) Give honor to God…..then nail him. I did not because even under that pressure, I feared God and didn’t want to hurt His People. I sought counsel and found that I was in a cesspool of homosexuality but all on the downlow. They were all married and appeared happy. Once I found out how bad the homosexuality was, I turned in my license and stop going to church. I cried out to God for help! I can feel the anointing right now!!!!!! One thing that I thank God for is that even when you are nobody to everybody, you are somebody to HIM! I thank God that not only did He hear my cry but sent deliverance to me. He healed me from bitterness. I had been contacted by many people who had questions about Bishop and I would not expose him to them because I didn’t want to hurt the church. I have been offered BET programming from other Pastors who wanted me to out him but I chose not to. Today, I feel Gods unction as I type because it is now time to expose what many have been following in error but more importantly, Bishop Jakes has become extremely bold with his lifestyle statements and it concerns me that many will blindly follow. I saw the photographs of His daughters wedding and saw him wearing an ear ring in his ear. Bishop knows the history of the ear ring as well as anyone. He has preached against it before. He knows its wrong. It is apparent that he did because the photos with the ear ring in are disappearing and photos that have been altered to remove the ear ring are now surfacing.

Bishop Jakes is not what many think him to be! None of his children, neither natural, spiritual or adopted have lives without extreme warfare. While I know we are not fighting against flesh and blood we are however fighting principalities. Ruling spirits that have power on earth. Bishop Jakes is a definite representation of a principality. The most unfortunate part to the story is that many know but won’t do anything about it. There are a growing group of men who will no longer be quiet about what the current religious leaders are allowing to creep into our ranks!

1. Thank you for your bold commentary. My friend has been telling me this for years about TD and yes the earring was very telling. God bless you and keep you safe!!

2. Hi. I run http://www.pulpit-pimps.org. If you can give me some substantial information (not just your statement) about T. Dexter, I am more than willing to post an article on that which you have said. But as I said, it has to be substantial and iron clad.

If the man is indeed homosexual, then it should be shouted from the roof tops. The Bible tells us we are to flee immorality. That which you say T. Dexter is doing is clearly immoral and the sheep should be warned.

I have about three thousand hits a week. Putting it out there would definitely get the word out.

3. I am so sorry you have gone through all you have because of TD Jake’s ministry…..there will be more warfare to come….just expect that, because you ARE getting the word out….but….our Lord will calm you, just Him immediately, don’t suffer through, ASK RIGHT AWAY. This sort of demonic activity SHOULD BE told, there are many people “following blindly” to the evil spirit(s) that lead this man (and MANY others like him), you MUST warn them….it all has to be done in love, but you are so afraid of hurting the people, you are hurting them by not getting them away from this wolf in sheep’s clothing.
The ONE AND ONLY TRUE LIVING GOD, your Lord, is with you every step of the way…it appears to me He’s giving you different methods in order to expose this darkness.
God Bless you as you do this.

I just wanted to take a minute to speak on how disappointed I am in the body of Christ. It never ceases to amaze me how other Christians are so quick to defame the character of other men and women of God. I am speaking about a Apostle Richard Youngblood and his claim against Bishop TD Jakes. I know Richard and I heard that he was going to vent his frustrations on Bishop Jakes and reference to Jakes lack of support during Richard’s brothers (Dwayne) molestation case. Richard mentioned that Jakes has known his family so long and that a man of his caliber could have easily spoken up in defense for Dwayne and maybe aided for his case. He wanted Bishop to know how it felt to be falsely accused of the same thing his brother was. We tried to talk him out of such a ludicrous idea but Richard was determined to get retribution for his family and the pain of such allegation has cause him. This is another case of the body of Christ not coming together but instead ripping each other apart for selfish game. I’m again disappointed in men of God putting themselves before God’s plan.”

Min. H

Now, I am not saying who is lying and who is telling the truth, which is why G. Craige and his cronies should not have taken this man at his word WITHOUT SEEMINGLY having all of the facts, and if they did have all of the facts, then why not present this to their inner circle.

When you read Apostle rey’s personal website, he sounds and acts just like T.D. Jakes and other prosperity pimps.

Is Bishop Jakes still Gay? Pt II

Filed under: religion — apostlerey @ 1:57 pm

I have been warned not to speak against Bishop Jakes or something may happen to me.  This threat was masked in a weak attempt to apply scripture out of context. It just further shows that there are none so blind as those who will not see.  I have decided to do all in my power to expose this systematic attack on Black Men, their families, The Church and our community.

Bishop Jakes is now a member of The Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies which is headquartered in Columbus Ohio . The Chief Prelate is Bishop Sherman Watkins. If you google him, you can read his bio but will notice a gap of 18 years between the time he founded his local church and the time he started his organization.  There is no mention of how he became a bishop.  Why or how he started HGAAA. Bishop Watkins was a member of Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Assemblies of Churches and Ministries which was also headquartered in Columbus Ohio . The chief prelate was the late Quander L. Wilson. Bishop Wilson ordained both Bishop Watkins and Bishop Jakes. Bishop Jakes was made Bishop in 1987.  Soon after his elevation to Bishop, he was contacted by Bishop Watkins who told him that he was starting his own organization and wanted him to come with him.  To sweeten the deal, Bishop Watkins bought Bishop Jakes a pink Lincoln Continental. I’m not sure if it was a MaryKaye car or just pink for no reason.  This began his relationship with Bishop Watkins.  Bishop Watkins was a wealthy man compared to Bishop Jakes.  He owned several houses one of which would be considered a mansion.  I have visited that house and it is indeed a wonderful piece of property. Under the covering of Bishop Watkins, Bishop Jakes would become more brazen but wiser with his homosexual lifestyle.  He would sit on a board of Bishops with men like Eric McDaniel who is also trapped by this homosexual spirit.  These men would flourish under Bishop Watkins covering which soon became a cover up.

Bishop Watkins has been a long time friend and associate of my fathers since they were both in Greater Emmanuel together for many, many years.  He knows that God is requiring holiness but he is looking the other way. I want to send a message to those who have sent vailed threats to me.  Tell Eli (bishop watkins) that his sons Hophni and Phinehas are out of order.  Tell him that a barren woman (black church) prayed not to be barren anymore and a son was birth.  This sons name is Samuel.  He has been asked for of God. In no way am I saying that I am Samuel by myself.  I am saying that there is a cry that has gone out into the heavens and God is reviving the spirit of Samuel and He shall replace the blind leadership of Eli and God will remove Eli’s sons and their deeds from amongst HIS People.

To those who will read these blogs and you know by experience that what is contained therein is truth, I encourage you to ask God to prepare you for what is about to happen. This shaking will not end until HOLINESS is once again the message and the lifes blood of GODS CHURCH .  Jesus said that He would build HIS church and it shall be so.  To the young men who are being lead astray by these male Jezebels i say, you don’t have to fall for the trick of this demonic movement.  It is a modern Sodom and Gomorrah .

I pray even now that those who read this may be pricked to their hearts and begin to ask God for the plain path that leads to life. We cannot continue following these men.  They are not sent by God. Some of them won’t know who they are until a prophetic word is released and the true spirit within them is awakened.  This is the prophetic word….

Lev 20:13  If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If there is not a cry for repentance, there will be a cry from exposure!!!

Now I am not denying that Jakes has ties to the homosexual community and that fellowshipping with them is sinful, but I am dealing with what this man has accused Jakes of and how G. Craige and his cronies RECEIVED THIS ACCUSATION WITH NO OTHER WITNESSES.

X-DST’s Influencing Aspirant. Minerva Worship?????

This was written in response to help an aspirant of Delta Sigma Theta by 2 X-DST’s. One of the e-mails is below.

“Thank you so much for the Email. You have had a big influence in m(y) decision not to pledge.” Aspirant

I received an e-mail from minister Hatchett regarding your questions about DST. I denounced Delta Sigma Theta in 2006 by writing an official letter that I had to get notorized asking for removal. As a young collegiate, I thought I wanted the acceptance of the women in the organization. I was attracted to the affirmation all the greeks on the yard gave each other, the status associated with being a member, and I wanted a sisterhood to belong to.

Well, I was hazed. I was slapped, bruised, bloodied, and betrayed (by my “line-sisters”). I realized that the expereince bred nothing but hatred and corruption, and in my heart I realized that this was not what I anticipated. I struggled for about 4 years trying to make the most of it and still be a member, I went thru a roller coaster ride of wanting to be a Delta and not wanting to be involved… Many members of BGLOS have a surreal experience that empowers them with a false sense of pride, and they make potentials believe that they are strong willed people when they allow themselves to be subjected to hazing.

BUt just think, would any normal person allow these things to be done to them in ordinary circumstances if they had any dignity? WOuldn’t we be ready to press charges against an employer if they required these things of us–this blind submission, physical and verbal abuse, needless spending of our money for their gain?

No one forces you to be hazed, you have to decide to be …but if you want to be 100% in that organization, hazing is the only way to avoid controversy. That is why so many people subscribe to it. It takes a much stronger person to walk away with self assurance enough to say, this is not for me, this is not of GOd, no matter how much they say they believe in God and are built on Christian principles. YOu must read between the lines. The sorority/fraternal system is built on pretentious characterisitics, and to do good for the community is the responsbility of every Christian—one does not need to belong to a group of people to carry this out if they are serving God genuinely…community service is the mask and underneath lies a bogus system that promotes elitism, self worship, hero worship, and blind allegiance…people who slap each other on the back and pump up each others’ egos…they are weak people who want the affirmation of others to feel valued…PERIOD. God’s afrirmation is all you need…

Many people are intoxicated by these types of social relationships, and the sad part is that there is so much corruption that gets covered up that the Christian Principles they brag about publicly are being privately forsaken…

God never intended for me to be a part of this type of culture…in my youth I thought as a child, but when I came of age, spiritually speaking, I had to put away childish things, and God did not want me to partake in the nonsense–DST was a childish thing I had to put away…furthermore, the love of Christ is far from what they practice, their love is very conditional–it is “moblike”–do what they all do and you are one of them…there is hypocrisy in their ranks because as soon as you have been deemed a skater because you have decided not to subject yourself to the foolish behaviors that hazing warrants, you are an outcast even though you are a legal, card carrying member, and others who have been brainswashed by hazing will still harrass you even unto the point of taking off your organizational paraphanelia — this is not unity, this is not love, this is snide, this is hatred, and in the kingdom of God, you do not get mistreated for standing for honesty…in DST, when my line collectively dropped, we were persecuted for not going thru with hazing…which, by the way is an illegal activity that DST publicly denounces, yet so many members partake in , young and old, knowing it is illegal but still revering its beguiling necessity inorder to be a “real” member –so they are also an organization of LIES, and Satan is the father of lies….Period…Furthermore, they accredit Roman/Greek goddess as being their guiding light, she is attributed with being the purveyor of wisdom for the organization, she is donned on the official seal, and although they give her symbolic credit only, they pay homage to her, and Christian Principles should tell them that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord…Minerva is a goddess from a pagan culture, and DST operates off of an internal belief system that Minverva is integral in…as you pledge you are hosted by the Minerva Circle when you are a pyramid, and these are 14 members who are deemd as wise, intelligent (as they wear the name of Minerva Circle) just the same as a Christian is supposed to wear the traits of Christ when we wear His name….you decide for yourself if this is a form of worship but in my book it is … what would I tell God on judgement day when asked about giving Minverva credit for being the goddess of wisdom…

This entire culture is not God’s way, and it is disguised by good acts of community service, charirty and all the stuff that people think are so wonderful for humanity…but the bottom line is that these individuals do these deeds to get the glory for themselves, they do not do it to give God the Glory…

Don’t let your heart be troubled, God has better plans for you, and He is not the author of confusion…continue to seek true wisdom not borne of an organization, but born of GOd, read the Bible to fill you with what you need to know.

I would take serious consideration of what you are about to read. I know it’s easy for those who have already been hazed to put their process in the back of their head. But the conscience is a much different thing, and thoughts that enter one’s mind are sometimes uncontrolled. Greeks, I am sure of wonder why they endured the brutal hazing process.

Then there are those who are PRE-brainwashed into believing that they to must be “MADE” to be Greek. My question is, WHY. WHY does the HAZING culture still THRIVE? Once you believe you NEED to be hazed to have that connection with other members, and JUSTIFY that process, then one feels it’s a DUTY and an HONOR to bring in the next aspirants IN THE SAME WAY. Below is a fairly thorough discussion on Cognitive Dissonance (CD). I will be bringing quotes from various members of Greek Organizations to prove that this kind of foolish thinking exists among men and women ages 18 and up. Men and women who are PASTORS, TEACHERS, STUDENTS, PROFESSORS, ETC.

What is this doctrine?

The doctrine of the Fatherhood of God and the Universal Brotherhood of Man when applied incorrectly is dangerous. It assumes that God is the Father of all men, therefore making us all brothers and sisters in this one creator, regardless of your personal religion or beliefs (i.e. Universal Sonship). This defies scriptures such as John1:12, John 14:6. It denies the unique role of Jesus as the ONLY savior.

I am leaving this link for your edification- http://vvchristianchurch.net/Articles/UniFath.htm

Does this doctrine exist among Greek-Letter Organizations? This is the prupose of this blog.

Ritual Quotes, quotes from history books, handbooks, etc. are all welcome.
